Audience Feedback!

Above is a video of some of the people who saw my video and here are some of their thoughts. A lot of people said that they liked the editing and effects which i used people also liked the narrative story line and thought it went well with the song.

Above is a screen shot of my video on Youtube, i have no comments but i have 19 views!

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Above is a prezie which shows how my Digipack, Music Video and Advert all link together.

In what ways does my media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

1) Is a shot from the Music Video Drunk on Love, i saw that i had a similar shot of this in my video
of my couple in more or less the same position, i would say my shot is a lot less intimate than the
one which Rihanna used in her Music Video.

2) This shot again In the Music Video We found Love is an extreme close up, i had a similar shot in
my music video but i would say that it is more of a close up of the face rather than an extreme
close up of the eyes, my shot is more of a Point of View shot of my actress (Lulu) looking at my
   actor (Harry).

3) Shot three shows how emotional Rihanna is and she is lying in a bath with messy hair and mascara
running down her cheek, i found a shot in my video which is like this when my actress Lulu is
crying in the bathroom looking at a mirror and you can see the mascara coming down her face,
   showing her emotion.

4) This screen shot is from the music video Only One (In the World) again by Rihanna, it shows her dancing infront of fireworks, my shot is quite similar as throughout the fire work sections in my video i have layred  two clips together and changed the capacity and colour.

5) For shot number 5 i have found a similar over the shoulder shot in the music video I knew you were trouble by Taylor Swift, i really like this shot as it was able to show you the back of the actress whilst showing the emotion on her face, which gave it a better angle and made the shot more interesting.

6) This shot which i was trying to capture is a slow motion shot which i recreated in my music video, when i was trying to find a music video which i could relate this to, i automatically thought of Fun - we are young as the whole film is shot more or less in slow motion, although my slow motion was a lot less calm than what goes on in Fun's music video. I like this shot as it slows down and shows you the anger and emotion which my actor is feeling and allows audiences to see this more clearly.

7) This shot is from the music video It will Rain by Bruno Mars This shot shows the couple reflected in the mirror. My shot only shows them in the  mirror unlike the shot which Bruno Mars has. But i like my shot as it is not as close up and shows more of the couple.

8) Shot number 8 shows my 'couple' at a 'caffe' talking, and flirting. This shot was quite similar to the shot in the music video I knew you were trouble by Taylor Swift, i have to say i like their shot a lot better as it is in a better location and better props are used.

9) These two shots show a burning fire, this shot is in the music video Old Pine by Ben Howard. , If i  had the chance i would re shoot it so it looked more like this, as i really like the glow and colour which they have captured.

When looking for similar shots, i found it quite easy to find similar shots, as a lot of music videos with a narrative story of 'love' or relationships had quite a lot of similar shots which i had done, i did not realise i had done this till i had to do this point as i must have done this subconsciously, but i am glad that i did as i feel that it matches the genre.

Final Video!

This is my Final Music Video. I used Premier elements in the end instead of Imovie as i realised that i could do a lot more on this programe, as Premier elements has lots more effects and transitons i could use to make my video more asthetically pleasing to watch.

I think my video was succesful. I say this because there is a clear story line, and i think what is happening in the video matches the music well. I also like the effects which i used the main one which i use through out the video is old film, which i really like as i think this matches the traites of indi/pop genre well. I also used an effect called channel mixer, i used this at the part when the fireworks are going of and i managed to mix another part of my filming into this, i think this works as it makes it more interesting to look at as there is more going on and it is good to get a brake from the old effect. I also took the old film effect of and added colour to certain parts, i think this helps as it matches the Pop genre a little and gives a sence of happiness and colour between the two actors.

When making this video i had a few problems, such as not being able to film in some locations which i had planed and had to find another actress, as the girl who i planned to use left school, but i think the two problems worked as i think the 'couple ' in this video look very good together and play the role well, i also like the locations which i used compared to the ones which i had planed.  Once i had finished filming i had a more serious problem and my video had gotten deleted, but thankfully i managed to get it back of youtube by downloading it again and being able to re-eddit in premier elements and think it looks a lot better than before. I have no regrets of any the problems which i faced as i think it all ended well and the video looks good.

First Draft!

My Digipack Mock Up

This is My Digipack, I had fun recreating this, i really like the front cover which is on the bottom right corner as i like the Indian Hena i think this works well. I also Like the back of the digipack which is the bottom Left one, i put a lot of work into this one to make it as realistic as possible which i think i have achieved. On the left is the spine of the cover, i took the pattern from the front cover and croped a part of it to use as the background of my spine. The font which i used for most of the writting is called Ancestory SF, which is used on the front cover, back, spine and on the first picture which you would see if you were to open my digipack. I also tried to keep the colours quite dull and mutual to match my video, as my music video has not got a lot of colour in it as i have used an old film effect on it.

My Advertisment for releasing album

I created my advert on Photoshop, I changed the colour of the origional into black and white so it would match my digipack, and what the music video is like so that it all linked together.
To make this advert it cut out my actress 'Lulu' and put it on to another blank photoshop page,I then took a screen shot of my music video turned it in to black and white and used it as the background, i again done this so it would match my music video.
I made this advert as if it were to apear in a magazine, i have included important information such as release date, what song will be in the album, the copyright company and my production company logo, I have also put on areas where public can find out more information, such as Twitter and Facebook.
I think this advert works as it is clear, has the information that is needed and matched my Digipack and music video and looks quite realistic.

Investigating how important the print advert is!

The Print advert which is used for promotion is very important!! it comes with so many advantages to the Artist.

The print advert tells the potential customers important information, such as release dates, shows fans what the album cover will look like, By doing these things creates hype and makes people exited and want to buy the album. This way of promotion is not as expensive as TV advertisement and gets the word out, the good thing with the method of posters you can plot it in areas where your potential customers are likely to be. In this casae you would probably see Lady Gaga's poster advertising in goth shops as a lot of her fans are of this ethnic group. It can also attract other customers if in more public place such as busy bus stops, tube stations on buses, train stations etc... as people are more likely to read poster if they have a longer wait.

It also allows you to advertise the songs which the artist wants the public to listen to, for example on the poster to the right it is also advertising Bad Romance and Telephone.

Here are some other posters which again contains the same information, songs, release date, album cover etc...

Flat plan for my advert

To create this advert i will need to get my actress to take a shot like this, i will then need to use photo shop to add writting, background which i will take a screen shot of my music video and use it as the background, i will then need to change the effect to black and white. So that it will go with my Digipack. The Advert will be the same image as on the front cover of the album as this is very common as it gets potential customers aware of what the album will look like.

Flat plan for my digipack

This is  a flat plan of my digipack. my Digipack will consist of six sides, and on each 'page' there will be a different image, which has either been created or has been a snap shot of when i was filming.
Sorry for the drawings as they are not that clear, but the top 3 are the inside of the digipack, there will be two pictures of the 'couple' in different locations and in the middle will be the disk with fire printed on the CD. The bottom three shows the front cover which is on the left of a face and will have the album name, and the back is the bottom right which will show the album name, song, copyright production company etc...

Advertisment poster recreation

Here is my attempt to recreate a poster of Lana Del Rey which She used to advertise a concert which she was doing. Using Adobe Photoshop I tried my best to make it as close as a match as I could. By doing this poster it showed me what artists especially in my kind of genre of music do to advertise concerts. Lana Del Rey's one is very simple and clear.
This is the origional poster which i coppied.

Recreating Digipack

This is my attempt to recreat Dermot O'leary's Digipack. To recreate the front cover i took images similar of google and eddited them on Adobe, i found this fun but time consuming, cutting round images and colouring in certain areas and trying to find similar fonts.

This is me working on my front cover on Adobe photoshop.
This is my recreation of the CD here.

This is the origional Front cover.
This is the back of the CD cover.

Finding a font for my Digipack

I have been experimenting with different fonts on Word. I looked through them all and selected my favourite ones which I think would go well with the genre and stand out on my Digipack. I have came up with a name of my album called Commotions. I thought this name would go well as I think this word related with drama, and my music video has traits of drama in it.  The fonts which i want to use have to be clear and striking at the same time. (Ones which I like so far just now are: for the poster Ansestory SF and Algerian). The fonts which I like for the poster just now is Bernard MT Condensed.

Difference between Digipacks and CD cases

There is a few differences between a Digipack and a CD case.

A Digipack Looks like this.

A digipack consists of a disk tray and on each side foldable cardboard folds and sometimes contain a sleeve. So it looks like a book which you open up. The front cover will be the cover of the album with the artist, songs on album are normally listed on the back. The whole point of a digipack is to add value they add value becasue they contain more art work, and are able to promote other CD's, can provide information such as what awards they have
won, record company and copyright to the album and album credits. Sometimes digipacks are created as a special addition. I will be creating a six sided digipack for my CD. This will alow me to add lots of art work and make the cover astheticaly pleasing as I can by adding eye catching photos and large fonts.

A CD looks like this.

This is what a CD looks like without pictures.

A CD is also known as a jewel case, this consists of a hard case made from plastic with a disk tray holding the CD inside. They normally consist of a front cover which will contain the name of the album and the artist with a striking image. And a back cover containing the songs on the CD. This is a more impact digipack, the benifits of a CD case is that they do not get as damaged as much, as they are hard cased and keeps the CD well protected.

 What My Digipack will contain

Artist name
Album name
My company logo
The logo of the company which contains the copyright to the song
The Lyrics to the song
Photos, maybe still shots of filming
A bar code
The disk tray which will hold my CD
CD, with the music video on it

How Artists promote themselves

Whilst investigating how different artists such as, Rhianna, Lady gaga, Justin Bieber etc... promote their music i discovered that they all promote their music in similar ways, such as talk shows, live tours, CD signings, Twitter/ Facebook, sometimes artists release an autobiography, being on the front of  magazine's such as GQ and releasing songs to be played on music channels such as MTV, all of these are ways to promote the artists and their music.

Picture of Rihanna and Justin Bieber on front covers of magazines.

Talk shows, not only in their own country but in others as well. when on talk shows they sing their song from their new album (normally performed at the end). By visiting the different countries and performing on chat shows not only gets the word out about new song, but builds fan's as it gives public an insight to what the artist is like, if they come across well fan's are more likely to pay the money on their merchandice such as tops, posters, CD's, live shows etc..

Here is pictures of Rhianna on talk shows around the world.

CD signins, this alows fan's to have the chance to meet their idol, and get a picture taken with them. When researching this i found a website called 'I met a starm' which alows you to see who is doing CD/ book signings when and where.  On the right this shows the croweds which turn up for a Justin Bieber signing.

Twitter, alows followers to see what their idol is up to, this keeps them in the media all the time by posting messages saying what they have been up to. And sometimes righting messages of release dates. Ke$ha first let out news of new album through twitter posting "Warrior will hit stores on December 4". By artists doing this it builds up hype so fan's will become exited and want to buy the new album.

Picture of twitter tweets.

Magazines play a huge part on letting public know what is happening with celberities, telling us not only their life gossip but where they are and where they are touring to what they have been up to. Some celbreties go out of their way to stand out of the crowed. For example at the MTV awards in 2012 Lady Gaga wore a meat suit, this brought lots of media attention which gave her the perfect opportunity to mention she was releasing a new album.

Picture of Meat costume. And artist on front cover of magazines.

And If they are a new artist they will follow the band or singer, for example Carly Rae Jepsen, is following Justin Bieber just now. The picture on the left shows the two on Ellen Degenerous chat show. And on the right shows the two performing with each other.

Artist will also promote themselfs on Radio, especially in the UK it will most likey to be Radio 1. Here they can perform to the nation in the 'live lounge', this is normaly where the artist sings a song and is common for them to cover another song.
Here is Ben Howard in the Live Lounge performing, Carly Rae Jacksons song - Call me mabye.
