Finding a font for my Digipack

I have been experimenting with different fonts on Word. I looked through them all and selected my favourite ones which I think would go well with the genre and stand out on my Digipack. I have came up with a name of my album called Commotions. I thought this name would go well as I think this word related with drama, and my music video has traits of drama in it.  The fonts which i want to use have to be clear and striking at the same time. (Ones which I like so far just now are: for the poster Ansestory SF and Algerian). The fonts which I like for the poster just now is Bernard MT Condensed.

Difference between Digipacks and CD cases

There is a few differences between a Digipack and a CD case.

A Digipack Looks like this.

A digipack consists of a disk tray and on each side foldable cardboard folds and sometimes contain a sleeve. So it looks like a book which you open up. The front cover will be the cover of the album with the artist, songs on album are normally listed on the back. The whole point of a digipack is to add value they add value becasue they contain more art work, and are able to promote other CD's, can provide information such as what awards they have
won, record company and copyright to the album and album credits. Sometimes digipacks are created as a special addition. I will be creating a six sided digipack for my CD. This will alow me to add lots of art work and make the cover astheticaly pleasing as I can by adding eye catching photos and large fonts.

A CD looks like this.

This is what a CD looks like without pictures.

A CD is also known as a jewel case, this consists of a hard case made from plastic with a disk tray holding the CD inside. They normally consist of a front cover which will contain the name of the album and the artist with a striking image. And a back cover containing the songs on the CD. This is a more impact digipack, the benifits of a CD case is that they do not get as damaged as much, as they are hard cased and keeps the CD well protected.

 What My Digipack will contain

Artist name
Album name
My company logo
The logo of the company which contains the copyright to the song
The Lyrics to the song
Photos, maybe still shots of filming
A bar code
The disk tray which will hold my CD
CD, with the music video on it

How Artists promote themselves

Whilst investigating how different artists such as, Rhianna, Lady gaga, Justin Bieber etc... promote their music i discovered that they all promote their music in similar ways, such as talk shows, live tours, CD signings, Twitter/ Facebook, sometimes artists release an autobiography, being on the front of  magazine's such as GQ and releasing songs to be played on music channels such as MTV, all of these are ways to promote the artists and their music.

Talk shows, not only in their own country but in others as well. when on talk shows they sing their song from their new album (normally performed at the end). By visiting the different countries and performing on chat shows not only gets the word out about new song, but builds fan's as it gives public an insight to what the artist is like, if they come across well fan's are more likely to pay the money on their merchandice such as tops, posters, CD's, live shows etc..

Here is pictures of Rhianna on talk shows around the world.

CD signins, this alows fan's to have the chance to meet their idol, and get a picture taken with them. When researching this i found a website called 'I met a starm' which alows you to see who is doing CD/ book signings when and where.  On the right this shows the croweds which turn up for a Justin Bieber signing.

Twitter, alows followers to see what their idol is up to, this keeps them in the media all the time by posting messages saying what they have been up to. And sometimes righting messages of release dates. Ke$ha first let out news of new album through twitter posting "Warrior will hit stores on December 4". By artists doing this it builds up hype so fan's will become exited and want to buy the new album.

Magazines play a huge part on letting public know what is happening with celberities, telling us not only their life gossip but where they are and where they are touring to what they have been up to. Some celbreties go out of their way to stand out of the crowed. For example at the MTV awards in 2012 Lady Gaga wore a meat suit, this brought lots of media attention which gave her the perfect opportunity to mention she was releasing a new album.

And If they are a new artist they will follow the band or singer, for example Carly Rae Jepsen, is following Justin Bieber just now. The picture on the left shows the two on Ellen Degenerous chat show. And on the right shows the two performing with each other.

Artist will also promote themselfs on Radio, especially in the UK it will most likey to be Radio 1. Here they can perform to the nation in the 'live lounge', this is normaly where the artist sings a song and is common for them to cover another song.
Here is Ben Howard in the Live Lounge performing, Carly Rae Jacksons song - Call me mabye.
